Tucson is full of history. Some of it dating before Arizona was even a state, some more recent. A location of more recent historical significance is Old Tucson Studios. There are many films that have been made here, one of the most notable being The Three Amigos. It is now a fun attraction that visitors from all over the world come to see. We met a couple from Germany!
They have the whole little town set up in a nice sized area, so there is plenty to explore but it’s not so big you’ll get lost there or not be able to make it to the next show if you are on the other side of “town”. They have plenty of shows you can enjoy throughout the day, including and old west shoot out that my kids really enjoyed. They had games for the kids to play, and they even invited some adults to join in.
Your kids can also be deputized by the sheriff. They have restaurants and an ice cream parlor.
There are rides that even our littlest one was able to go on. It is not crowded at all so we rode the carousel a few times in a row.
They enjoyed driving old fashioned cars. And a train you could ride around the whole town.
They have a scary mine tour that my 7-year-old went through twice! (it is a bit scary as they have giant spiders, skeletons and a bit of stage blood so keep that in mind with your little ones). My big guy thought it made him pretty tough and cool.
If you want to give your kids a real cowboy experience they can even ride a horse! Kids 8 and under and free of charge, though tips, of course, are very appreciated. The kind man will take your little ones, very slowly on a walk. It was perfect, they were not afraid at all and he was so kind helping them and very patient with my often times wild kids. But if he asks you if you want to have an Arizona snowball fight, say no. ;)
During the shows, if you sit in the front row, or along the aisle there's a chance you'll get to participate.
They have a pie eating contest you can volunteer for, which I may have done. Somehow I didn't realize pie eating contest do not involve utensils. You can watch the video here. Pro tip, if you volunteer for the pie eating contest, you get a free pie! We don't worry a whole ton about germs so my kids at the rest of the pie and thought it was delicious.
You can bring in water bottles, but not food. I would recommend a stroller for younger ones. If you go in the summer and umbrella for the sun would have been nice, also, don’t forget the sunscreen!
You can get more information as well as purchase tickets on their site. You can also find them on Facebook and Twitter.
